Link: U.S. Can’t Trace Foreign Visitors on Expired Visas
Eight years after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and despite repeated mandates from Congress, the United States still has no reliable system for verifying that foreign visitors [on expired visas] have left the country.
I don’t think many people realize how important it is for the country to stay on top of this. Last year alone, 2.9 million foreign visitors on temporary visas officially entered the country, but never officially checked out. Terrorism is only the tip of the iceberg for this issue, and we need to use the technologies we already know to solve the issue. Not that difficult—but too much work to change the system. Typical.
