The New York Times has two interesting, yet totally ideologically conflicting stories about the people of Iraq posted on their front page. The first:
Moment of Heroism After a Blast in Iraq
The rescue of a baby from the wreckage of a bombing that killed eight seemed to be proof that Iraqis were still capable of extraordinary acts of humanity.
Indeed, that is a truly heroic and extraordinary act of humanity. However, alongside this article, lies another:
The relative freedom of a newly democratic Iraq and the recent improvement in security have allowed a gay subculture to flourish here. The response has been swift and deadly.
Swift and deadly? I wonder if this was the reaction of all Iraqis, or perhaps radical muslims (or the United States military?). Either way, what a queer portrayal of the Iraqis on behalf of the Times. I won’t even begin to dissect the stories themselves. Read up for yourself:
